How To Make A Kale Shake

How To Make A Kale Shake

Kale Shakes have become popular for breakfast, largely due to Joe Rogan, a comedian. He has one every morning, alongside a Bulletproof Coffee. This shake has nutrients that supposedly make people lose weight, feel healthier and as though they are able to kick some ass. Inadvertently, there are some downsides to it if you choose to drink a raw kale shake, but there are a lot of recipes you can use that are not raw kale and are nonetheless delicious and healthy. Joe Rogan has his own recipe, but there are a few more others that have been tried by many people and loved all the same as they are also healthy, just like the original recipe.

Joe Rogan Kale Shake Recipe

  • 4 stalks kale
  • 4 celery stems
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 pear
  • 1/2″ ginger
  • 8 oz. water (optional, to help items blend together more smoothly)

These items should be blended together in a heavy duty blender, such as Vitamix or BlendTech.

The following recipes were developed based on the original recipe. The purpose was to maintain the healthy balance of the items used in this protein shake, still use its main item – kale, but make it taste better and have many more properties.

Smooth Kale Shake

  • 1-2 cups water (depending on the desired smoothie thickness)
  • 3-4 stalks kale
  • 1-2 bananas
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1/2″ ginger
  • 1 peeled lemon
  • 1-2 scoops protein powder (vanilla tastes best; use your choice of whey, casein,  egg white or even raw vegan protein)

Sweet Kale Shake

  • 1-2 cups water (depending on the desired smoothie thickness)
  • 3-4 stalks kale
  • 1-2 apples (or pears)
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1/2″ ginger
  • 1 peeled lemon
  • 1-2 scoops protein powder (vanilla tastes best; use your choice of whey, casein,  egg white or even raw vegan protein)

(The lemon and ginger aid in digestion.)

Superfood Kale Shake

  • 1-2 cups water (depending on the desired smoothie thickness)
  • 1-2 packets of acai (or 1-2 cups of blueberries)
  • 3-4 stalks kale
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon chlorella
  • 1-2 scoops protein powder (vanilla tastes best; use your choice of whey, casein,  egg white or even raw vegan protein)

Of course and without a doubt, you may change these recipes after your heart’s desire. You can use as many greens as your stomach can put up with. You can use more apples, less kale and spinach. When making a shake it is best to experiment until you have found the perfect taste, the one that suits you best.

People turn mostly to raw kale shakes because they want to start their day with a massive dose of nutrients and a revved up digestive system, but that can be done with the upgraded and changed recipes of this shake just as well.

With the raw version of this shake, some long term problems can be encountered if you drink it daily. These can be avoided by bullet-proofing the kale shake. This can be done by removing kale’s natural self-defence mechanisms and increasing the vitamin absorption from it. Balancing the shake could send your energy level through the roof, which is exactly what the improved recipes I have mentioned before are capable of doing.

Here you can find some of the effects the raw kale shake can have on you. They are regarded as the dark side and the light side of the famous and mighty raw kale shake.

Green Smoothie Production

Raw Kale’s Dark Side

  • Kale’s oxalic acid can cause muscle weakness
  • Raw kale can cause painful sex
  • Kidney stone risk
  • Gout risk
  • Lowered thyroid function (goitrogenic)

Raw Kale’s Light Side

  • 180% RDA of vitamin A
  • 1000% RDA of vitamin K
  • High concentration of antioxidants
  • Sulphur-based nutrients
  • Carotenoids and flavonoids
  • Lutein and zeaxanthin for your eyes

You will find that, it you balance accordingly the raw kale shake, you can enjoy the light side of the raw kale, get rid of the dark side mostly. Most people have too much calcium compared to magnesium, so supplementing it might not be the brightest idea someone has ever had, but that is for most people. For kale fans, although supplementing it is still a bad idea, adding it along with magnesium to the composition that contains the kale, in your blender, could represent a great idea. Additionally, you can add to your shake some mineral water that contains both calcium and magnesium. This could be considered a possible therapeutic agent according to a 1997 study.

It a known fact that we should be careful as to what we eat and in combination with what other fruit or vegetables and this shake is no exception to the rule. You should be aware of drinking a raw kale shake, and you should also blend into it other fruits, experience as much as possible. This is not one of those times when you should stick to the recipe. Get reckless and enjoy this healthy type of breakfast.
